Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Friday, June 26, 2020 that Texas will roll back certain aspects of the Texas reopening given a 79% rise in weekly coronavirus cases.
Beginning Friday, June 26, 2020:
- Bars and similar establishments with gross incomes of more than 51% from the sale of alcohol will close at noon but may remain open for takeout and delivery, including for alcoholic beverages.
Beginning Monday June 29, 2020:
- Restaurants dine-in service cannot exceed capacity of 50%, which was previously at 75%.
In addition, river rafting and tubing businesses were shut down by the order. Local officials must now also give approval for outdoor gatherings of more than 100 people.
Vice President Mike Pence visited Texas Sunday, June 28, 2020 for a “Celebrate Freedom” event at First Baptist Dallas. Pence praised Texas Governor Abbott’s decisions both for reopening Texas and then to roll back the reopening plans. Vice President Pence stated the Trump Administration and he stand with Texas during this pandemic.
